In what was considered a last-ditch effort for Republicans to contest the victory of President-elect Joe Biden, Texas filed a lawsuit in December against Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin over their election procedures implying claims of unproven election fraud in the swing states.
The Supreme Court – including three of President Trump’s own picks – rejected the lawsuit for consideration because the state lacked the standing to bring it on. Basically, there is no Constitutional reason a state should have an interest in policing other state’s voting procedures.
True to form, once the Supreme Court rejected the lawsuit, Trump took to Twitter to express his disappointment in the decision.
Critics have speculated that the only reason Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed the lawsuit was to get into the good graces of President Trump because he is seeking a presidential pardon relating to a 2015 felony securities fraud charge and, more recently, FBI’s investigation on Paxton using his position and office to do favors for Nate Paul, a political donor.
